During the 1970s and 1980s, Japan's rapid economic growth led to the widespread adoption of the piano as part of the country's popular culture.
"An era when there was one piano
in every household."
In the early 1980s, as pianos became common in households, many families had a pianos at home, even if they couldn't play them.
The piano boom in Japan,
which peaked in 1980, came to an end.
As a result, those pianos became unused all over the country.
In 1979, Takemoto Piano was founded.
The company began purchasing those high-quality,
unused pianos from Japan.
Inspired by American garage sales, the founder, Koichi Takemoto (now Chairman), started buying and selling used pianos.
